Dylan Dreyer has shared insights into her recent separation from her husband, Brian Fichera, after twelve years of marriage. The Today show host, aged 44, revealed on social media in August that the couple had been separated for “a few months.” This month, Dreyer relocated with their three sons—Cal, nine, Ollie, five, and Rusty, four—from their New York City apartment to the suburbs of Long Island.
During a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, she opened up about the emotional aspects of the split. Dreyer explained that while every couple has unique reasons for divorce, she found a sense of liberation in their decision. “Whatever broke in a marriage, you could either fix it if you can, and ideally you would, and you try, and you try to fix things. Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward,” she stated.
She emphasized the importance of reframing their relationship for the sake of their children. Dreyer noted, “We are no longer husband and wife, and all those things that were broken, I don’t hold them against you because we’ve accepted they’re broken. That’s why we’re separated. So now let’s move forward as friends.”
Dreyer expressed her belief that this new dynamic allows her to be a better friend to Fichera, saying, “And I can be a better friend than a wife. And now the boys are surrounded by love.”
In addition to their personal changes, the couple recently sold their New York City apartment. The property, originally listed for $2.49 million in November 2024, was sold in September 2023 for $1.99 million, according to Realtor.com. Dreyer had previously mentioned that the apartment lacked sufficient space for their family.
Reflecting on the memories created in their former home, Dreyer shared a heartfelt farewell on Instagram. She posted a series of photos showcasing her sons’ bedroom, which featured a triple bunk bed. In her caption, she quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson: “A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.” She expressed gratitude for the memories made there, acknowledging the bright future awaiting her children.
As Dreyer embarks on this new chapter in Long Island, she is committed to fostering a positive environment for her sons, ensuring they continue to thrive surrounded by love and support.
