Former Diplomat Publishes Reflections in New Book “Ostaci Razbijenog Stakla”

Bora Šuput, a retired diplomat, has released a new book titled “Ostaci razbijenog stakla,” which compiles his reflections through a series of short texts and 13 columns previously published in the Montenegrin newspaper Pobjeda. In this collection, Šuput addresses his motivation for writing, stating, “To explain the world around me to myself.”

The title, which translates to “Remnants of Broken Glass,” metaphorically represents the fragments of life and experiences faced by individuals as they age. Šuput elaborates on this concept, suggesting that these remnants can symbolize shattered glass or broken mirrors, which resonate with the human condition. He reflects on moments of youthful melancholy and the inevitability of confronting the shattered beauty, truth, and eternity that life presents.

Each of the book’s essays, born from Šuput’s introspection in 2025, aims to tackle questions regarding the nature, state, and future of the world. He emphasizes that these thoughts are not merely reflections but a sincere attempt to understand deeper truths. “The prehistory of each piece already sprouted in some crack of a world that began to crumble during my maturation and aging,” he explains.

Šuput acknowledges that the insights shared in the book stem from a place of personal growth. He expresses hope that readers will find these reflections as compelling as he did while writing them. “At my age, it seems justifiable to assume that my thoughts have matured enough to share with others,” he states.

Ultimately, Šuput leaves the fate of his collection in the hands of its readers, trusting in their goodwill and receptiveness. His work serves as an invitation to engage with complex themes of existence, identity, and the passage of time, encouraging a dialogue that transcends generations. As he concludes, he hopes that these intellectual excursions will resonate with those who take the time to explore his reflections.
