A tragic incident in São Paulo has led to the deaths of two young individuals, allegedly as a result of a jealous confrontation. On December 28, 2023, Geovanna Proque da Silva, 21, was arrested after reportedly killing her boyfriend, Raphael Canuto da Silva, 21, and his friend, Joyce Correa da Silva, 19, during a high-speed chase.
The events unfolded after Raphael hosted a barbecue at his home, where Geovanna became suspicious of his interactions with other women. According to local authorities, she sent multiple messages via WhatsApp demanding the removal of the women from the gathering, stating that “someone would solve it” or she “would solve it.” Following this, Geovanna allegedly drove to the barbecue location, where an argument ensued between her and Raphael.
In an attempt to leave the escalating situation, Raphael departed the property with Joyce on his motorcycle. Geovanna then pursued them at high speed, reportedly ramming her vehicle into the motorcycle from behind. The impact was catastrophic, propelling both victims approximately 30 meters into the air. Tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that following the collision, Geovanna allegedly mocked the victims. She purportedly told an acquaintance, “Go and help your friend and the sl*t I just killed.” After the incident, Geovanna fled but later became unwell and sat on a pavement nearby. Local residents, angered by the incident, threatened to take vigilante action against her, prompting police intervention.
Geovanna was taken into custody, and authorities have since launched an investigation into the case. This incident adds to a troubling trend of violence related to intimate relationships in Brazil. Just days prior, another case drew attention when Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva, 25, was allegedly thrown from a 10th-floor balcony by her husband, Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos, 40. Emergency services found him cradling her body, with claims that she had taken her own life. However, police reports indicate that CCTV footage contradicts his narrative, showing a series of physical assaults leading up to her death. He was arrested on suspicion of femicide nine days later.
The ongoing investigations into both cases highlight significant concerns regarding domestic violence and the need for increased awareness and preventive measures in Brazil.
