Barry Manilow, the renowned singer, has shared an update on his health following surgery to remove a cancerous spot from his lung. The 82-year-old artist took to social media from his hospital bed to inform fans that he is feeling “better today” after undergoing the procedure. This update comes after he revealed his diagnosis last month, which necessitated significant medical intervention.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Manilow expressed his gratitude for early detection, stating, “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.” He had faced a challenging period of health issues, including six weeks of bronchitis, followed by a relapse lasting an additional five weeks. Despite returning to the stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, his doctor recommended an MRI as a precaution. The scan revealed the cancerous spot on his left lung.
Manilow announced that he would be undergoing surgery after the conclusion of his “Christmas Gift Of Love” concerts. Although the diagnosis was alarming, he reassured fans by stating that his medical team does not believe the cancer has spread. “The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he noted. As a result, he is not expected to require chemotherapy or radiation therapy following the surgery.
Community Support and Upcoming Changes
Manilow’s recovery will take approximately one month, which has led to the cancellation of his scheduled performances in the United States for January 2024. Tour vocalist Melanie Taylor responded to his update with an encouraging message, saying, “That’s my boss y’all! He’s making it through the rain! Love you B! [prayer emojis].” This outpouring of support highlights the strong connections Manilow has cultivated with both his fans and colleagues throughout his career.
In his social media post, Manilow humorously mentioned his post-surgery plans, stating, “Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns,” reflecting his optimistic outlook during this challenging time. His willingness to share his health journey has resonated with many, further solidifying his bond with fans worldwide.
As he focuses on his recovery, fans anticipate his eventual return to the stage, eager to witness the enduring talent of the “Copacabana” legend.
