Tributes Pour In for Beloved Vet Manager Jo Austin, 61

URGENT UPDATE: Tributes are flooding in for Jo Austin, a beloved veterinary practice manager, who passed away at the age of 61 on February 20 at West Suffolk Hospital. Jo, a key figure at Eastgate Vets for an incredible 45 years, is remembered for her unwavering compassion and dedication to both animals and their owners.

Jo served the community primarily from the practice’s branch in Bury St Edmunds, while also supporting locations in Mildenhall and Thetford. Her sudden passing follows a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and care that touched countless lives.

Colleagues and clients alike have expressed their sorrow. Claire Crane, co-practice manager at Eastgate Vets, who worked alongside Jo for over 42 years, stated, “Jo was an amazing colleague with a heart of gold and we will all miss her terribly.” Claire emphasized Jo’s unique ability to connect with pet owners, saying, “She always had time for people and was thoughtful and supportive.”

Jo’s journey began when she joined Eastgate Vets at just 16 years old as a “girl Friday,” taking on various roles before rising to practice manager over three decades ago. Her impact was profound; she was not just a manager but a friend to many, always ready to lift spirits with her sense of humor. Outside of work, she was an avid gardener, sharing her passion by gifting plants to her colleagues.

In a poignant tribute, Katie Robinson, a regional Business Development Director from VetPartners, remarked, “Jo put the needs of every team member above her own and has helped countless vets and nurses achieve their dreams.” Her contributions to the veterinary field and her dedication to animal welfare will not be forgotten.

Jo’s funeral is scheduled for March 20 at 12:00 PM in St Edmund’s Chapel at West Suffolk Crematorium. In honor of her memory, donations can be made to Bury’s Stray Cat Fund, a cause close to her heart.
