Free Holiday Activities for Kids Launch Across East Riding NOW

UPDATE: The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has just launched a series of free holiday activities for children, providing an exciting opportunity for families in need this December. These programs are part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) initiative, aimed at children aged 5 to 16 who receive benefits-related free school meals.

The activities, which include horse grooming, sumo wrestling, and K-POP dance workshops, are available throughout the East Riding, including locations such as Anlaby, Bridlington, Goole, and Withernsea. Families are encouraged to take advantage of these engaging sessions, which also feature crafts, baking, sports camps, and outdoor adventures.

Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families, and education, emphasized the importance of providing these opportunities:

“There’s a fantastic range of activities available right across the East Riding. It’s important that children and their families can access these fantastic, free activities in their local communities.”

New offerings this year include family cooking sessions and festive treat-making experiences. Children can also participate in a multi-sports session in Goole, featuring over 25 different sports. Most sessions last four hours, and each child can book up to four sessions for free, subject to availability.

The HAF program, funded by the Department for Education, aims to keep children entertained and active during the holiday season. A limited number of spots are also available for children with an education, health, and care plan (EHCP), regardless of their free school meal status.

Places are filling up fast, and reservations operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested families are urged to secure their spots promptly by visiting the council’s booking page.
