Castlehill Care Home Sees Improvement Amid Urgent Inspection Update

UPDATE: Castlehill Care Home in Inverness is showing significant improvements, according to a just-released report from the Care Inspectorate following an unannounced inspection conducted from December 15 to 17, 2025. Inspectors noted a “happier atmosphere” and increased staff morale, though the home continues to be rated as “adequate,” the third tier on a six-point scale.

This urgent inspection report highlights critical changes at the care home operated by Simply Inverness Ltd, part of the Morar Living group. Residents currently occupy the middle and upper floors, as the ground floor is closed for refurbishment. The inspection team engaged with 39 residents and 8 relatives, observing daily operations and staff interactions.

The findings reveal a marked improvement in care planning and responsiveness to residents’ needs. Inspectors praised staff for being more attentive to continence needs and skin care, with residents appearing “smart and well-dressed.” Mealtimes have also become more dignified, thanks to one-on-one support from the staff.

Additionally, a diverse range of in-house activities, including music sessions and seasonal crafts, has been introduced to enhance residents’ engagement. The leadership team has been commended for their growing confidence and professionalism, with clearer structures established to support staff during shifts.

However, the report also emphasizes that further improvements are necessary. While the care home has improved its complaint handling policy, inspectors found the documentation lacking in detail regarding actions taken and outcomes. A requirement to enhance this process has been extended until March 2026.

Infection prevention and control protocols, previously flagged for improvement, have been met, with the inspection noting a clean environment and effective cleaning routines. All legal documentation related to capacity and decision-making is up to date.

The Care Inspectorate stresses the importance of “continued focus” on raising standards further, encouraging the leadership team to ensure that recent improvements are sustained.

For those invested in the wellbeing of the residents, this report brings hope amid ongoing challenges. Castlehill Care Home management has been approached for additional comments as they navigate these critical changes.
