SC Derby Seeks Victory to End Losing Streak Against Krka

Basketball team SC Derby from Podgorica aims to break a six-game losing streak when they face Krka in Novo Mesto this evening at 19:00 local time. After struggling against strong opponents in their previous matches against Dubai and Cluj, this game presents a crucial opportunity for the team to regain momentum.

Head Coach Petar Mijović emphasized the importance of this match, stating, “We respect Krka. The first game was good for us, but since then both teams have changed their rosters and certain elements of their game structures. We cannot afford any mistakes, and that is how we have prepared for this match. Securing points in Novo Mesto is challenging, but given our current situation, victory is imperative.”

SC Derby previously defeated Krka by a ten-point margin (85:75) in late October 2023. A win tonight, even by a narrow margin, could prove invaluable as both teams are likely to compete in the relegation playoff phase, where points from the league stage carry over.

Point guard Darijus Johnson acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “Krka is a very good team with many talented players. We must pay special attention to their shooters and be strong in rebounding. This game is extremely important for us, and we need to fight for all 40 minutes, especially on defense. I expect a physically demanding and tough match that could be decided by one or two possessions.”

Krka, like SC Derby, is also in a negative cycle, having lost three consecutive matches, resulting in both teams currently holding a record of two wins and nine losses. Dejan Jakara, Krka’s coach and a former coach of SC Derby, expressed confidence in his team despite their struggles. “We are looking to start the year with a victory at home. Regardless of our challenges, I believe in the players. With the right desire, energy, and fighting spirit, we can secure a win,” he stated.

Historically, SC Derby leads the overall head-to-head record against Krka in the ABA League with 5 wins to 2 losses. However, Krka has been more successful at home, winning two of their three encounters. The last time these teams met in Novo Mesto was on February 6, 2024, when SC Derby achieved a solid 97:72 victory.

As the game approaches, the stakes are high for both teams, and fans can expect an intense match as SC Derby seeks to reclaim their position in the league standings while Krka aims to turn their fortunes around at home.
