Mydentist Plans New Practice at Nottingham Retail Park, Concerns Arise

Plans have been announced for a new dental practice to open at East Point Retail Park in Nottingham, following the closure of the budget retailer Poundland. The proposals submitted by Mydentist, the largest provider of dental care in the UK, aim to transform the former 750-square-metre Poundland unit into a dental facility. This move comes after Poundland ceased operations at the site at the end of last year.

The establishment of Mydentist at the retail park will lead to the closure of two existing dental practices located in Sneinton Dale and Kelso Gardens, which will merge into the new facility. In a letter reviewed by Nottinghamshire Live, Mydentist indicated that this relocation is intended to “better meet the needs of our patients and the wider community.”

Despite the potential benefits, concerns have emerged among patients regarding accessibility to the new site. One patient from the Meadows practice, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over the travel difficulties posed by the relocation. “How will Meadows residents get there? It’s two buses away and in the middle of nowhere,” the patient stated. They highlighted the challenges for individuals who may struggle with public transport, particularly the elderly and vulnerable populations. “What about people who can’t get two buses or walk or have children?” they added.

In response to the concerns, a spokesperson for Mydentist emphasized that they are exploring alternative locations for their Sneinton Dale and Meadows practices. “These are just proposals for consideration at this stage, and nothing has been confirmed,” the spokesperson noted. They reiterated the company’s commitment to ensuring that any plans prioritize patient care and stated, “We’ll be writing to all of our patients again once we are able to share more information.”

As discussions continue, Mydentist remains focused on providing uninterrupted service at their existing practices while aiming to enhance the overall patient experience through this proposed relocation. The company’s dedication to quality care remains a top priority as they navigate the transition and address community concerns.
