URGENT UPDATE: BermudAir has just announced it will discontinue flights to Richmond and Raleigh/Durham in January 2026, marking a significant change in its operational strategy. This decision comes just six months after launching the Richmond route, which operated twice weekly, and means Richmond will lose its only international link, a service that has been absent since the mid-2010s.
The airline, which began operations in September 2023, has rapidly expanded its U.S. footprint, but recent months have seen a troubling trend of route withdrawals. Earlier this year, BermudAir halted services to Fort Lauderdale and Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport, both launched in 2023. Additionally, flights to Charleston and Hartford’s Bradley International Airport were also recently dropped.
BermudAir’s restructuring signals a shift from secondary airports to major gateways. In October, the airline initiated twice-weekly flights to both Newark Liberty and LaGuardia, expanding into key East Coast markets. This strategic pivot aims to bolster demand and streamline its operations.
In an exciting development for the airline, BermudAir is set to debut its new subsidiary, AnguillAir, focused on expanding connectivity from Anguilla. Starting in December, it will launch three new routes to the U.S., including Baltimore and Boston, significantly enhancing direct travel options for this popular destination.
Despite these expansions, the airline faces serious financial pressures, including a lawsuit for unpaid charges to Skyport, operator of Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. The outcome of this legal battle may impact BermudAir’s long-term growth prospects and ambitions for future international routes, including potential flights to Europe.
Founder and CEO Adam Scott emphasized the airline’s commitment to optimizing its existing network while navigating these challenges. As the situation develops, travelers and stakeholders will be closely monitoring how these changes affect Bermuda’s air travel landscape.
Stay tuned for ongoing updates as BermudAir’s strategy unfolds in the coming months.
