Snoop Dogg carries Olympic torch through Paris ahead of opening ceremony
Before Friday’s opening ceremony, Snoop Dogg carried the Olympic torch through the suburbs of Paris.
One of the final torchbearers, the rapper from Drop It Like It’s Hot carried the Olympic torch past the Stade de France Olympic stadium and through Saint-Denis’s streets.
Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was seen on video dancing and waving to fans as he walked his route in white sportswear and gold shoes, giving the role a unique spin.
The legendary hip-hop artist shared a picture of him holding the torch outside the sports stadium on Instagram. He inscribed the post, “Did somethin today (fire emoticon) #FollowTheDogg (sic).”
Fellow torchbearers like French rapper MC Solaar, French actress Laetitia Casta, and retired Ukrainian pole vaulter Sergey Bubka were with him in Saint-Denis.
Sneak, 52, partook in the light transfer to address his home city of Los Angeles, which will have the 2028 Olympic Games.
While in Paris, he will act as an extraordinary Olympics journalist for the U.S. network NBC.
Over 10,000 athletes are expected to gather on boats on the Seine River for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Games on Friday evening.
During the event, Lady Gaga and Celine Dion are said to perform a duet of Édith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose.
