Residents of Lisburn are invited to an evening filled with music and entertainment to support the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Organized by local resident Brian Johnston, this event will take place on February 7, 2024, at the 2nd Saintfield Presbyterian Church hall, beginning at 19:30.
The initiative follows Johnston’s successful fundraising efforts, which garnered over £2,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. This amount was raised through the sale of Johnston’s humorous books, as well as handcrafted reindeer and snowmen. Additional funds came from donations collected during two days at Tesco stores in Lisburn and Newtownbreda just before Christmas.
The upcoming musical evening will feature performances from the Comber Music Club and the popular husband-and-wife duo, Jonathan and Iryna Johnston, who will showcase their talents on the flute and piano. The program promises a diverse array of musical genres, ensuring that there will be something to appeal to every attendee. In addition to the music, Johnston will serve as the evening’s compere, adding his signature humor to the event.
All proceeds from the sale of Johnston’s books and the CDs of Jonathan and Iryna will be directed to the MND charity, further supporting their important work. The disease, which affects the nerves controlling movement, leads to muscle weakness and is currently incurable. MND has gained significant attention in recent years, especially following the deaths of several high-profile individuals from the condition.
The Northern Ireland Branch of the MND Association operates entirely on a volunteer basis, with many members having personal experience with the disease. This dedication highlights the importance of community support in raising awareness and funds for research and assistance.
Tickets for the musical evening are priced at £15 and can be purchased directly from Brian Johnston at 07773 765781 or via email at [email protected]. Attendees are encouraged to join in for a delightful evening that not only promises entertainment but also contributes to a vital cause.
