A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to over eight months in prison for a series of thefts that took place across two supermarkets in Rowley Regis shortly after Christmas. Marcus Henry, who has a history of theft, committed the offences between December 26, 2022, and January 6, 2023.
Henry’s criminal activities were not only extensive but also included breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in May 2022, which specifically prohibited him from entering one of the supermarkets involved in his crime spree. Following his arrest at his home in Spiral Close, Halesowen, Henry was charged with six counts of theft from shops in addition to breaching the CBO.
The case was brought before the Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison. Officers from the West Midlands Police were able to identify him easily due to high-quality CCTV footage capturing the thefts.
Following the conclusion of the hearing, Sergeant Jason Walters spoke about the wider implications of such crimes on local businesses and communities. He stated, “We understand the significant impact this crime has on local businesses, staff and the wider community and recognise the harm it causes, not only financially, but also in terms of safety and confidence.”
The police emphasize that such criminal behaviour will not be tolerated, and they are committed to using all available legal tools to address similar offences. Sergeant Walters encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities, reinforcing the importance of community vigilance.
Anyone with information related to suspicious activities can contact the police by calling 101 or, in emergencies, 999. The West Midlands Police also offers a live chat facility on their website, www.west-midlands.police.uk.
As local authorities continue to tackle theft and improve safety, the case of Marcus Henry serves as a reminder of the serious repercussions of criminal behaviour.
