Manchester United has engaged in discussions regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion. Reports from Sky Sports indicate that despite the interest, a deal is unlikely to materialize before the end of the January transfer window, as Brighton wishes to retain Baleba until at least the summer.
The 21-year-old midfielder has garnered attention for his performances with the Cameroon national team during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Since last summer, Manchester United has expressed interest in Baleba, adding him to a list of targets as they look to strengthen their squad under manager Ruben Amorim.
While United made significant investments during the last transfer window, it appears the club is not finished in its pursuit of reinforcements. Amorim has identified midfield additions as his top priority to enhance the team’s competitiveness in the Premier League.
Among the potential targets alongside Baleba is Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest. Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen recommended that the club prioritize Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace for next summer. “I’m a big fan of Wharton; I think he should be the number one priority for United next summer,” Meulensteen stated. He praised Wharton for his technical abilities and vision, noting, “His range of passing is second to none, and he has Premier League experience.”
In light of the current transfer window, Amorim has tempered expectations regarding immediate signings. On Friday, he remarked, “The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on upcoming matches, particularly as the team aspires to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League.
As Manchester United continues its campaign, fans and analysts alike remain keenly interested in the club’s transfer strategies and potential acquisitions. The situation surrounding Baleba and other targets will likely evolve as the transfer deadline approaches, but for now, the club’s focus remains on performance on the pitch.
