Harry Redknapp Praises Jockeys as The Jukebox Man Aims for Gold Cup

Harry Redknapp has expressed admiration for jockeys, asserting that they display greater bravery than footballers. The former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Portsmouth is preparing for a significant moment in horse racing as his horse, The Jukebox Man, is among the favourites for the Cheltenham Gold Cup on March 15, 2024.

At 79 years old, Redknapp is not only gearing up for the prestigious race but is also set to appear in the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity. He emphasized the resilience of jockeys, saying, “They get injured, these jump jockeys, and then they’re back three weeks later. They’re not like footballers, are they? They’re incredible.” His comments highlight a respect for the physical demands placed on jockeys, who often face significant risks in their profession.

With a stable of 26 racehorses, Redknapp praised the work of trainer Ben Pauling, likening his role to that of a football manager. “He’s got to go and sign good horses,” Redknapp explained. “If you’re a football manager, you’ve got to sign good players or you’ve got no chance.” He described Pauling as a top trainer and an excellent communicator, noting that he is always available to discuss the horses.

Redknapp has enjoyed a successful partnership with Pauling, stating, “I’ve been very lucky with the horses I’ve had with him. He gave me a Cheltenham winner, and he’s not bought me a bad horse. Everything he’s bought me so far has been good.” This collaboration underscores the importance of strong relationships in both football and horse racing.

The excitement continues for Redknapp as one of his other notable horses, Taurus Bay, is set to compete later today in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The event draws significant attention from racing enthusiasts and adds to the competitive atmosphere of the festival.

As the Cheltenham Gold Cup approaches, all eyes will be on Redknapp and The Jukebox Man as they aim for one of the highest accolades in horse racing. With Redknapp’s extensive experience in sports management, his insights into the courage of jockeys and the dynamics of racing training provide a unique perspective on this thrilling event.
