Voters Approve Major School Project in Berkshire Hills District

UPDATE: Voters in Stockbridge and West Stockbridge have just approved two critical measures for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District that will pave the way for a new high school building. As of 7:10 PM on November 4, 2025, results show a decisive approval in Stockbridge: Question 1 received 636 yes votes against 112 no, while Question 2 garnered 604 yes versus 135 no. Earlier, at 7:05 PM, West Stockbridge reported 462 yes to 131 no for Question 1 and 435 yes to 157 no for Question 2.

This momentous decision allows the district to borrow $152,067,064 for designing and constructing a new facility on 600 Stockbridge Road in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The new high school will replace the existing Monument Mountain Regional High School, serving students in grades 9-12.

The ballot contained two key questions. The first sought approval for the borrowing of funds, while the second asked voters if their town should be exempt from a property tax limitation to cover the bond issued for the project.

The impact of this vote is profound. With growing populations and increasing educational demands, the need for modern educational facilities is critical. Residents expressed their support at the polls, underscoring a community commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for local students.

As results from other towns in the district come in, this story will continue to evolve. The Berkshire Edge will provide a full report on the implications of this vote and what it means for the future of education in Berkshire County.

Stay tuned for further updates as the district prepares to move forward with this significant investment in education.
