Urgent Update: 70 Arrests in Knife Crime Crackdown Across Midlands

Urgent Update: Authorities have confirmed a significant crackdown on knife crime across the West Midlands, resulting in 70 arrests in just one month. The operation, led by the Guardian Taskforce, aimed to address rising concerns about youth violence and the proliferation of knives in neighborhoods including Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Walsall during February 2026.

During this intensive month-long initiative, officers executed 367 stop searches, which yielded the confiscation of 60 weapons, primarily knives. The operation extended across various boroughs, with 39 arrests made in the Black Country, 28 in Birmingham, and 17 in Coventry and Solihull.

Insp Colin Gallier from the Guardian Taskforce emphasized the critical nature of these efforts:

“Our teams are continuing to work incredibly hard to take knives and offensive weapons off the streets. Every knife seized is potentially a life saved.”

He highlighted the importance of ongoing stop and search operations to deter violence and protect communities.

The Guardian Taskforce collaborates closely with local policing teams and community partners through the Violence Reduction Partnership. Their proactive approach includes daily visits to schools, offering support and guidance to deter young people from engaging in criminal behavior. This is part of Project Guardian, which employs a range of tactics, including plain-clothed operations and high-visibility patrols, to tackle the urgent issue of knife crime.

The current wave of arrests signals a strong commitment from law enforcement to address this pressing concern within the community. As the task force continues its work, the public can expect increased patrols and continued emphasis on prevention and education aimed at steering youth away from violent crime.

Authorities urge community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. As this situation develops, further updates are anticipated from the Guardian Taskforce, underscoring their dedication to making the streets safer for all residents.

Stay tuned for more critical updates as this situation progresses.
