UPDATE: The highly anticipated book “Autobiography” by renowned architect and theorist Ranko Radovic will be unveiled on December 11, 2023, at 6 PM in the Zavičajni Museum located in Danilovgrad. This event promises to be a significant highlight for architecture enthusiasts and cultural historians alike.
The launch is organized by Matica crnogorska and features a panel of distinguished speakers, including architects Slavica Stamatovic-Vukcevic and Kresimir Rogina, political scientist Čedomir Čupić, publicist Rajko Radovic, and editor Marko Špadijer. This gathering will provide an in-depth exploration of Radovic’s impactful career and insights into his personal reflections.
In conjunction with the book launch, an exhibition titled “Living Space – A Tribute to Professor Ranko Radovic” will showcase selected works from third-year students of the Faculty of Architecture. Under the guidance of Professor Slavica Stamatovic-Vukcevic, these students have created pieces that resonate with Radovic’s legacy in architectural theory.
Radovic, who penned two volumes of his “Autobiography” while in Japan as a visiting lecturer at the University of Tsukuba in 1990-1991, reflects on his life and the significance of documenting such experiences. Author and professor Dragan Radulovic notes that Radovic extensively recorded his “life and times” through detailed journals, questioning the very essence and motivation behind writing an autobiography.
The emotional connection to Montenegro is palpable in Radovic’s work, as he embodies the essence of a true cosmopolitan while cherishing his roots and personal history. His multifaceted career includes roles as a thinker, essayist, educator, and minister of urban development in the Montenegrin government from 2002 to 2003.
Radovic’s contributions to architecture extend beyond completed projects; he profoundly influenced the discourse surrounding architectural theory, urban development, and cultural habitation. His legacy is further solidified through numerous publications and his role as a professor at various universities.
Sadly, Ranko Radovic passed away in February 2005 and was laid to rest in Gornji Martinici, near Danilovgrad, in a tomb he designed himself. His life and work continue to inspire generations of architects and thinkers, making this book launch an unmissable event.
As the December 11 date approaches, anticipation grows for what promises to be a profound reflection on a remarkable life dedicated to the pursuit of architectural excellence. Stay tuned for live updates and coverage from the event, highlighting Radovic’s enduring impact on the fields of architecture and education.
