URGENT UPDATE: Met Éireann has just issued an orange rain warning for Cork and Kerry, effective from 3 AM to 6 PM on Sunday, as heavy rainfall threatens road safety across the region. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution as conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) warns that the anticipated downpour, particularly in elevated areas, could lead to dangerous river and surface water flooding, along with severely reduced visibility. This alert is particularly critical for those planning to travel in these areas.
In addition, a yellow rain warning is in effect for much of the western coast, including Clare, Limerick, Donegal, and Connacht, starting from 6 PM on Saturday until midnight on Sunday. Furthermore, Tipperary, Waterford, and Wexford will also experience yellow rain warnings from midnight on Sunday until 3 AM on Monday.
The Met Office has extended caution to all of Northern Ireland, where a yellow rain warning will be in place throughout Sunday and Monday.
Drivers are strongly advised to monitor local traffic and weather conditions before hitting the road. “We urge all motorists to remain vigilant and adjust their travel plans according to the severe weather conditions,” the RSA stated.
As families prepare for weekend activities, the potential for hazardous weather conditions poses a significant risk. Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops.
