Two Charged for Selling Fake Covid-19 Vaccination Records

URGENT UPDATE: Two individuals from County Durham have been charged in connection with the alleged sale of fraudulent Covid-19 vaccination records. Ian Taylor, 42, and Abbey-Leigh Coates, 25, appeared in Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing serious charges under the Computer Misuse and Fraud Act.

This alarming case stems from a joint investigation by the National Crime Agency and NHS England, which uncovered the creation of 1,168 fraudulent vaccination records between June 2021 and January 2022. These records, supposedly generated at a health centre in Darlington, were sold to the public, netting over £200,000 in illicit profits.

Authorities suspect that organized criminals recruited healthcare professionals to produce these fake documents, enabling unvaccinated individuals to bypass travel restrictions during the pandemic.

Both Taylor and Coates have had their cases adjourned and will next appear at Teesside Crown Court on March 30, 2026. Meanwhile, two additional suspects—Christopher Thompson (36) from Horden and Shahid Hussain (33) from Middlesbrough—were also scheduled for court on Monday but could not attend. Their cases have been rescheduled with Hussain set to appear on March 16, 2026, and Thompson on April 6, 2026.

As this story develops, it raises significant concerns about public safety and trust in vaccination efforts. The investigation highlights the ongoing risks associated with fraudulent health documents, especially as society continues to navigate the pandemic’s impact.
