UPDATE: Sports presenter Laura Woods reveals her long battle with a stalker has left her feeling “exposed” and “anxious.” In a candid interview with The Daily Telegraph, Woods detailed how the harassment began in 2021 from a Liverpool fan, identified as Harneet Kaur, who was later sentenced to 14 months in prison for her actions.
Woods, 38, described the relentless abuse that spanned over three years. This included disturbing birthday messages threatening her life and monthly funeral letters, all designed to instill fear. “For three years, she would go to extreme lengths to make my life very uncomfortable,” Woods stated. She detailed how Kaur sent sexual health kits to her home and made false reports to authorities, including the police and animal welfare services.
The situation escalated when Kaur posted a video from a shooting range in America, directing it at Woods. “It was just too much, and it changed the way I felt about London,” Woods said. Living alone with her dog, she felt increasingly vulnerable. “I didn’t want to be there any longer. It spun me into quite a bad place. Suddenly I was extremely anxious and low,” she recalled.
Beyond the stalking ordeal, Woods also shared her personal journey into motherhood. She discussed her engagement to former Love Island star Adam Collard and the emotional toll of a miscarriage prior to the birth of her son, Leo, who is now 10 months old. “Talking to a lady who’d had three miscarriages, you realize how common it is,” she noted.
Woods encouraged Collard to speak openly about the stalking during his recent appearance on Celebrity SAS. “He asked me: ‘What if it comes up?’ I said: ‘It’s not a stigma. I don’t want this to be something we have to hide,’” she explained. The experience has had a profound emotional impact on him, as Woods described the pain of losing something that never fully materialized.
Earlier this month, Woods made headlines when she collapsed live on air during ITV’s coverage of England’s friendly against Ghana. The incident occurred while she was pitchside at St Mary’s Stadium, prompting pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante to rush to her aid. ITV quickly cut to a commercial break, and when they returned, Woods’ place was taken by colleague Katie Shanahan, who confirmed that Woods had been “taken ill.”
As Woods continues to heal from her traumatic experience, her story serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of stalking and the importance of speaking out. The public’s support and understanding are crucial as she navigates this challenging chapter of her life.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as Woods shares more about her journey.
