URGENT UPDATE: The Huntingdon Emergency Foodbank is appealing for donations as it prepares to support local families this winter. Established in 2020 by entrepreneur Iqbal Ansary, the foodbank has been a lifeline for struggling families, currently assisting around 20 families each week.
With a staggering total of over 5,000 families supported since its inception, the foodbank’s ongoing mission is vital. “We began this work because there was a clear need, and that need is still here today,” said Iqbal Ansary. “Through The Ansary Foundation and the generosity of local people, we’re able to make sure families don’t go hungry. It’s a privilege to serve this community.”
This year, the foodbank is gearing up for the festive season, preparing Christmas and New Year parcels for families in need. To ensure these families have a joyful holiday, the foodbank has shared a list of essential items and festive treats that are desperately needed, including:
- Tinned meat, fish, fruit & puddings
- Pasta, rice & sauces
- UHT milk & long-life juice
- Biscuits & snacks
- Toiletries
- Gravy granules
- Stuffing mix
- Sauces
- Peanuts and crisps
- Christmas pudding & mince pies
- Chocolates & sweets
- Custard or cream (UHT/tinned)
- Savoury crackers & pickles
Donations can be dropped off at The Priory, 83 High Street, Huntingdon, PE29 3ER. The foodbank relies heavily on contributions from local businesses like the Co-op in Godmanchester and generous individuals.
This is a critical moment for families who may otherwise go without during the holiday season. The call for support is stronger than ever as the foodbank works tirelessly to ensure no family is left behind. Local residents are encouraged to contribute whatever they can to make a difference.
As Christmas approaches, every bit counts. The foodbank’s efforts exemplify the community’s resilience and compassion, but they need your help now more than ever. Let’s come together to support those in need this winter!
