Former Councillor Phillip Charles Accused of Stalking Woman

UPDATE: Former Conservative councillor Phillip Charles, aged 52, is facing serious allegations of stalking a woman over a five-year period. Authorities confirm that Charles, who represented Glasgow’s Baillieston ward from 2017 to 2022, engaged in a pattern of behavior that caused the victim fear and alarm between October 2020 and April 2025.

The charges against Charles detail a disturbing series of actions, including repeatedly contacting the woman to pressure her to leave her husband. Court documents reveal that he not only reached out to her directly but also attempted to communicate with her friends and colleagues to gather information about her.

In a particularly alarming claim, Charles is accused of sending the victim gifts, such as bottles of wine and an Easter egg delivered through Deliveroo. He allegedly left a box of gifts at her residence and made unwanted social media posts, including photos of her, which further escalated the situation.

According to the prosecution, Charles’ behavior included persistent contact via email and mobile phone, as well as leaving voicemail messages. He reportedly went so far as to contact the woman’s husband and post comments about his own relationship on social media, indicating a troubling obsession.

The court heard that Charles allegedly obtained the woman’s new home address through unknown means and sent her an Amazon parcel, further violating her privacy. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Charles has pled not guilty to the single charge of stalking, which prosecutors describe as targeting his “partner or ex-partner.”

During the hearing, defense attorney Michael Stewart indicated that the case requires further examination, particularly as ten screenshots have yet to be disclosed to the defense. As a result, the trial has been adjourned until March 2024, with another hearing scheduled for next month where Charles’ attendance is excused.

This case raises significant concerns about personal safety and the impact of stalking on victims. The court will continue to monitor developments closely as it seeks justice for the alleged victim.
