URGENT UPDATE: Flood alerts have just been issued across Shropshire, with reports confirming dangerously high levels in the River Severn and affecting areas from Whitchurch to Chester. As of last night, the Environment Agency has warned residents that flooding remains a serious risk, particularly near low-lying lands and roads adjacent to rivers.
Residents living in critical areas such as White Abbey, Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, and Bridgnorth are urged to prepare for possible flooding, with river levels expected to peak at the Crew Green gauge near Shrewsbury between 5.5 meters and 5.7 meters. Additionally, the Welsh Bridge is projected to reach 2.2 meters to 2.5 meters, while Buildwas anticipates levels between 3 meters and 3.5 meters.
The Environment Agency has stated that updates on the flooding situation will be provided before 10 AM today. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, as flooding may affect low-lying areas and roads from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine near Shrewsbury, and from Shrewsbury to Upper Arley.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged all residents to exercise caution. A statement from the agency reads:
“Flooding is possible over the next two days. Take care and avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
With severe weather conditions expected to persist, the community is advised to stay informed and prepared. This developing situation underscores the importance of heeding official warnings and staying updated on local conditions.
