BREAKING: Major deals have been struck as Bendita Film Sales announces new acquisitions by Paul Hudson’s Outsider Pictures in the U.S. and Antoine Zeind’s A-Z Films in Canada. This urgent update follows a successful package deal for three standout features that premiered at the 2024 Ventana Sur festival in Montevideo.
These films, all celebrated at key international festivals this year, are now set to reach North American audiences. Luis Renart of Bendita stated, “With these deals, we feel we are closing a circle that began here at Ventana Sur one year ago. When we presented two of these films, they received key awards.”
Among the highlights is “La Caza”, directed by Álvaro Olmos Torrico. This gripping story, which centers on a mother-daughter relationship against the backdrop of rural depopulation in the Andes, won the Cine+ Award at Ventana Sur 2024. It also premiered in the prestigious TIFF Centrepiece program this year, followed by screenings at Biarritz and FIC Cali, where it earned accolades for Best Feature and Best International Film.
In addition, Mayra Hermosillo’s feature, “La Eterna Primavera”, has garnered attention for its powerful storytelling. Premiering at Venice’s Giornate degli Autori, it won the Best Screenplay for Authors Under 40 Award and received high praise from acclaimed director Guillermo Del Toro. The film, set in late-1980s Mexico, explores the complex bonds between generations of women facing love and adversity. It also secured awards at Ventana Sur 2024 and Cinélatino Toulouse.
Lastly, Avelina Prat’s latest film, “El Sueno de las Flores”, presents an intimate reflection on identity and personal reinvention. Premiered at the Málaga Festival, it features performances from Maria de Medeiros and Manolo Solo and was produced in collaboration with Distinto Films and Jaibo Films.
Paul Hudson of Outsider Pictures expressed his excitement, stating, “I first saw these films in Primer Corte at Ventana Sur last year, and it’s been great to see their growth from there to Venice and TIFF. This is the sleeper surprise of the year.”
These acquisitions signal a significant moment for independent cinema, providing a platform for diverse voices and stories that resonate globally. As these films prepare for their North American debuts, audiences can expect powerful narratives that reflect pressing social issues.
