BREAKING: Renowned artist and designer Barbara Bjeliš has just unveiled her highly anticipated photography exhibit, “Afterlight,” at the Gallery Center for Culture Cetinje. This exhibition, which opened today, features a profound collection that explores themes of belonging, transience, and the interplay between body and landscape.
The intimate and visually rich series employs multiple exposures, a technique Bjeliš developed through years of experimentation with a small analog camera. By embracing chance as a co-creator, her work delves into the deep emotional connection between individuals and their surroundings, juxtaposing intimate acts against the stunning backdrops of Durmitor.
Bjeliš expressed that her arrival in Cetinje was purely serendipitous yet pivotal for her artistic journey.
“I found myself in Cetinje by some stroke of fate. We were traveling through Montenegro and stumbled upon this gallery that immediately captivated me,”
she shared. After a conversation with the gallery team, she was thrilled to accept the opportunity to showcase her work.
The photographs on display span nearly a decade, with some taken as recently as this year in Durmitor, adding layers of personal and temporal depth to the exhibit. Bjeliš, who has a master’s degree in visual communications from Zagreb’s design studio, founded Studio Kanu in 2018 and has participated in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. She has also won the award for Best Film Poster at the SEECS Festival in Istanbul and currently resides in Oslo.
The exhibit, “Afterlight,” will be open to the public until January 14, 2024, allowing visitors to engage with Bjeliš’s unique artistic vision. Art enthusiasts and the local community in Cetinje are encouraged to experience this compelling exploration of connection to nature and self.
With its emotional depth and innovative techniques, “Afterlight” is poised to resonate with audiences, making it a must-see event in Cetinje. Don’t miss your chance to witness this captivating display of artistry and emotion.
