BREAKING: The prestigious Zaim Azemović Award for 2023 has been awarded to Afanu Latiću for his compelling collection of stories, “Pod oštrim uglom.” The announcement was made earlier today by the Center for Culture in Rožaje, highlighting Latiću’s significant contribution to contemporary literature.
This award, which recognizes outstanding literary achievement, is a testament to Latiću’s unique storytelling ability. According to Dr. Melida Travančić, a prominent Bosnian-Herzegovinian writer and critic, Latiću’s work seamlessly connects the past with the present and hints at a new reality. She emphasizes that the stories within “Pod oštrim uglom” encourage readers to perceive the world differently, exploring and reflecting on their surroundings through a fresh lens.
Born in Berane in 1983, Latiću completed his primary education at the “Hajro Šahmanović” school in Plav before attending the Gazi Husrev-beg Medresa in Sarajevo. He later pursued a degree in Oriental Philology, specializing in Arabic and Turkish languages and literature. After completing his studies, he returned to Montenegro, where he currently teaches Arabic at the “Mehmed Fatih” Medresa in Podgorica.
Latiću is not only an educator but also a passionate translator and writer, producing both poetry and prose that resonate deeply with readers. The award ceremony is expected to take place later this month, with details to be announced by the Center for Culture.
