A revolutionary new product aimed at the affluent has been introduced by Yamada Holdings, a Japanese home electronics retailer. The company showcased the Mirai Human Washing Machine at the recent Osaka Expo, where it garnered significant attention for its luxurious price tag of approximately £300,000 (around ¥60 million). This innovative washing machine offers a unique alternative to traditional bathing methods, designed specifically for the super-rich.
The device is set to be available in Tokyo, with a demonstration unit planned for display starting on December 25, 2023. Although an official sales date has not been confirmed, Yamada Holdings anticipates launching this high-end product soon, limited to just 50 units.
Upon entering the 2.3-metre-long machine, users will experience a fully automated washing process. The machine employs warm water and microscopic bubbles to cleanse the body without any physical movement required from the user. According to Yasuaki Aoyama, chairman of Science, the company responsible for the machine’s technology, the goal is to allow individuals who could not attend the expo to experience this groundbreaking innovation.
The concept of the washing machine is not entirely new. It draws inspiration from a prototype first displayed in 1970 during the previous Osaka Expo. Sachiko Maekura, a spokeswoman for Science, noted that the company’s president was inspired by this early design as a child. The current model not only cleanses the body but also monitors users’ heartbeats, adding a health-focused element to the experience.
The machine’s exclusivity is part of its allure, with only 50 units set for production. A hotel in Osaka has already purchased the first unit and plans to offer it to guests, emphasizing the unique experience it provides. Maekura expressed that “part of the appeal of this machine is rarity,” highlighting the luxurious nature of the product.
As the market for high-end electronics continues to evolve, the Mirai Human Washing Machine represents a significant leap in personal care technology. With its extravagant price and limited availability, it is positioned to attract a niche clientele seeking the latest in luxury innovation.
