Bearman Predicts Challenging Start for Lindblad in F1 2026

Ollie Bearman has forecasted a “tough introduction” for his fellow British driver, Arvid Lindblad, who will join the Formula 1 grid as the only rookie for the 2026 season. Lindblad’s entry comes at the onset of a new regulation cycle, which presents unique challenges and opportunities for newcomers.

Bearman, currently driving for Haas, reflected on his experience as one of five rookies in the 2025 season, where he raced alongside Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, and Jack Doohan. This season saw a rookie-heavy grid, but with Lindblad stepping into the spotlight alone next year, Bearman emphasized the difficulties that could arise from being the sole newcomer.

While Bearman expressed confidence in Lindblad’s abilities, he acknowledged that the absence of fellow rookies could make the transition more challenging. “It will definitely be challenging, but I believe he’s a really talented driver,” Bearman stated during a media event in Abu Dhabi, as reported by PlanetF1.com. He noted, “I was in F2 in Prema when he was in F3, and he was doing a very good job all year. He’s had a great season in F2 now.”

Bearman highlighted that the new regulations could serve as a “leveller” for all drivers, suggesting that the learning curve may be steep for everyone involved. “For us rookies coming in this year, we were entering a regulation cycle that was very mature, with all the drivers having considerable experience,” he explained. “There are pros and cons to joining in every era of Formula 1.”

Lindblad will partner with Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls next season, following the promotion of Isack Hadjar to team up with Max Verstappen at Red Bull. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda will transition to a test and reserve role within Red Bull.

While Bearman believes Lindblad may have preferred to have other rookies alongside him, he acknowledged the importance of seizing the opportunity to race in Formula 1. “I’m sure he would prefer to be on the grid with other rookies, but I’m sure he would prefer to be the only rookie than not be in F1,” he concluded.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Lindblad as he navigates the challenges of being a rookie in a rapidly evolving sport.
