Police Seek Public Help After Harassment of Schoolgirl in Nottingham

A 16-year-old girl in Nottingham was followed and harassed by a stranger while shopping at a Sainsbury’s store on November 9, 2023. The incident occurred on Greens Lane, where the girl became aware of a man who was staring at her. After her shopping trip, the man followed her outside the store and engaged her in conversation, making comments about her appearance and inquiring about her residence.

According to reports, the man complimented the girl and discussed properties he owned, which made her feel “scared” and “intimidated.” Fortunately, a courageous shop worker intervened, prompting the man to flee the scene.

Police Investigation Underway

Detectives from Nottinghamshire Police have since launched a thorough investigation into the incident. They have released a CCTV image of the man they wish to speak with, urging the public to assist in identifying him.

PC Olivia Pettitt, who is leading the inquiry, stated, “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and made the girl feel scared and intimidated. We take all reports of harassment and intimidation extremely seriously.”

Public Appeal for Information

PC Pettitt emphasized the importance of community support in resolving this case. “We really need the public’s help. We have released an image of a man that could help us further our investigation. Do you know the man in the image? Are you the man in the image? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

The incident has raised concerns about safety in public spaces, particularly for young individuals. Authorities encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses similar incidents to report them immediately to ensure the safety of all community members.

As investigations continue, Nottinghamshire Police remain committed to addressing and preventing harassment and intimidation in the area.
