Ivan Vukovic, Deputy President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and Member of the Parliament of Montenegro, expressed his thoughts on the significance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In a post on social media platform X, he emphasized the importance of remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust and the need to continue the fight against evil.
Vukovic stated that the day serves as a stark reminder of the millions of innocent lives lost during one of the darkest chapters in human history. He underscored the necessity of acknowledging this tragedy to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Tribute to the Jewish Community
Reflecting on the day, Vukovic wrote, “Today, my thoughts are with the Supreme Rabbi of Montenegro, as well as with the members of the Jewish community in Montenegro, Israel, and around the world.” His message highlights the solidarity and support for those affected by this historical atrocity, reinforcing the bonds between communities and nations in the face of hatred.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed annually on January 27, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, in 1945. The day serves not only as a remembrance of the victims but also as a call to action against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination.
Vukovic’s statement aligns with global efforts to educate and raise awareness about the Holocaust, ensuring that such events are never forgotten. As political leaders and communities reflect on this day, the focus remains on fostering understanding and tolerance to combat prejudice in all its forms.
