One-Third of Montenegrins Enjoy Financial Comfort, Study Reveals

A recent study conducted by the agency Spektrum Analitika indicates that approximately 37-38% of Montenegrin citizens are experiencing financial comfort. This group possesses a secondary property, savings, or investments. The findings were presented on TVCG by Milos Besic, who detailed the methodology behind the research.

The study revealed that the overall welfare index in Montenegro stands at 38%, reflecting the percentage of respondents who confirmed ownership of an investment, savings, or another property. Specifically, 18.1% of citizens own a second property, while 27.7% have savings, and 8.4% hold some form of investment. According to Besic, these figures suggest that a significant portion of the population is living in relative prosperity.

Social Vulnerability and Financial Stability

In contrast, the study also assessed social vulnerability, with findings indicating an index of 17-18%. This statistic is supported by additional research showing that around 18% of respondents feel compelled to incur debt to cover their day-to-day living expenses. Furthermore, 6.4% of citizens reported renting their homes, indicating a segment of the population that may face financial instability.

Despite these challenges, the data reveals that 30.3% of participants can comfortably afford dining out or taking short trips without financial strain. Besic highlighted that this data aligns with the previously mentioned statistics, reinforcing the notion that around a third of the population is managing their financial responsibilities effectively.

Additionally, 9.4% of respondents stated they could survive for a year without income, which suggests that 10% of Montenegro’s population lives in what can be described as general prosperity.

When asked about their quality of life, more than half of the citizens, specifically 51.6%, reported feeling good. Meanwhile, 39.8% stated they are managing adequately, and 8.6% expressed that they are struggling. Notably, 18.3% of respondents acknowledged an improvement in their living conditions over recent years.

These insights into the financial well-being of Montenegrins reveal a complex landscape where a substantial part of the population enjoys financial comfort, while others face challenges. As the economy continues to evolve, ongoing studies will be critical in understanding the dynamics of wealth and vulnerability within the country.
