Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced significant progress in negotiations for a government-to-government (G2G) agreement with the United States during his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He revealed that discussions with the American delegation, including U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have been fruitful, with expectations for the agreement to be signed within the year.
In a post on social media platform X, Spajić expressed his satisfaction with the discussions that took place at the start of the forum. “There is mutual pleasure on both sides that tremendous progress has been made in the negotiations for the intergovernmental G2G agreement with the U.S.,” he wrote. This agreement is anticipated to enhance cooperation between the two nations, particularly in areas crucial for Montenegro’s economic development.
During the forum, Spajić aims to address key global and regional issues, while promoting Montenegro as a stable and attractive destination for investment. His cabinet emphasized the importance of this international platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration.
In a separate announcement, Spajić disclosed his discussions with Kristof Kotoar, President of the Adecco Group, one of the largest global firms specializing in employment and workforce management. The talks focused on continuing their collaboration following the successful completion of a pilot program in Montenegro, which helped around 40 unemployed individuals acquire digital skills through a three-month training initiative.
Spajić remarked on the critical nature of enhancing knowledge and skills in Montenegro, especially as the country navigates the final stages of its negotiations with the European Union. “It is vital for Montenegro to strengthen its domestic workforce, particularly during this challenging negotiating process with the EU,” he stated.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the World Economic Forum highlights Montenegro’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and improving its economic landscape. As discussions progress, the anticipated G2G agreement with the United States could play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s future economic trajectory.
