A language professor in Rožaje, Montenegro, has been arrested after sending a threatening email to the US Embassy in the country. The incident prompted immediate action from the Police Directorate, which launched an investigation into the matter.
According to a statement from the Police Directorate, officials from the Personal and Object Security Sector responded swiftly to a report regarding a threatening message sent to the embassy’s official email address. This communication was directed at the embassy’s administration and senior officials, prompting coordinated efforts to identify the sender.
The police identified the suspect as A.K., a 35-year-old resident of Rožaje. Following the initial investigation, officers from the Regional Security Centre “North” located and detained A.K. for questioning. During the interrogation, he admitted to sending the email from his laptop.
Subsequently, police executed a search warrant at A.K.’s residence, where they seized his laptop as part of the investigation. A spokesperson from the Police Directorate confirmed that the actions taken were in accordance with the relevant legal framework.
The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Rožaje was informed about the situation. After reviewing the details, the prosecutor determined that A.K.’s actions did not constitute a criminal offense but rather a violation of the Law on Public Order and Peace, specifically related to offensive or reckless behavior. As a result, A.K. was taken into custody on suspicion of this administrative offense.
Notably, A.K. is employed as an English language professor at a local secondary school. Background checks revealed a prior record, including previous allegations of domestic violence. The police statement emphasized the importance of addressing such threats seriously, particularly when they involve diplomatic entities.
