EU Single Market Access Transforms Life in Western Balkans

Access to the European Union’s (EU) single market is set to significantly transform the lives of citizens in the Western Balkans, according to Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić. His remarks followed a recent summit of regional leaders in Tirana, where he emphasized the importance of embracing this opportunity for the future of the region.

During the summit, Spajić highlighted that the time has come for the Western Balkans to seize their “ticket to a European future.” He stated, “Access to the EU’s single market changes the lives of citizens in this region and strengthens its stability, as well as that of Europe as a whole.” He expressed pride in Montenegro’s role in leading the EU enlargement process, a journey that has been anticipated for over a decade.

Regional Integration and Economic Benefits

Spajić pointed out several key benefits that come with this integration, including faster border crossings, simplified payments for citizens and businesses, and improved digital accessibility. He emphasized that these changes will not only enhance daily life but also promote economic growth across the region.

The Prime Minister elaborated on ongoing initiatives to bolster connectivity between the Western Balkans and the EU. “With our partners from the region and the EU, we are establishing new connectivity instruments, such as AI factories and the Single Market Highway, which will open European value chains to our companies and attract investments,” he noted.

These developments align with a collective goal of achieving a quicker path to full EU membership for countries in the region. According to Spajić, the collaborative efforts are designed to ensure that the benefits of EU integration are felt broadly, not just by businesses, but by all citizens.

Spajić’s statements reflect a growing consensus among regional leaders that enhanced cooperation and integration with the EU is essential for the future stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans. As discussions continue, the commitment to this shared vision will play a crucial role in shaping the region’s trajectory in the coming years.
