At the recent European Taekwondo Championships held in Switzerland, 18-year-old Andrea Berisaj made headlines by clinching a bronze medal. This achievement marks one of the most significant senior results in taekwondo for Montenegro, as reported by Biznis CG.
The event also featured the continuation of the European Junior Championships, alongside the senior competition in Olympic weight categories. Montenegro was represented by three athletes at the senior level. In the women’s category of up to 67 kg, Berisaj, a member of Taekwondo Club “S3”, secured her place on the podium by defeating both Tijana Nikolic from Serbia and Cloe Blitek from France. Her journey was halted in the semi-finals by Norwegian competitor Nilsen Romund.
In addition to Berisaj’s success, Ognjen Komatina from Taekwondo Club “Olimp” competed in the men’s category of up to 80 kg. He won against Tomas Sitteka from the Czech Republic before facing defeat in the second round against Alexander Muskevits from Estonia. Another Montenegrin athlete, Zinedin Becovic, also faced a setback, being stopped by Russian competitor Stepana Slepova.
The coaching staff has emphasized that Berisaj’s bronze medal is a noteworthy accomplishment, highlighting the potential for further success in upcoming world and European competitions for young athletes. The results from Switzerland not only showcase individual talent but also strengthen Montenegro’s presence in the international taekwondo arena.
