A fundraising musical evening is set to take place on February 7, 2024, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, to support awareness and research for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Local resident Brian Johnston has been actively raising funds for this cause, recently amassing over £2,000 through various initiatives, including the sale of his humorous books and handcrafted decorations.
Johnston dedicated two days before Christmas to collect donations at Tesco stores in Lisburn and Newtownbreda, where he received generous support from the community. With this latest event, he aims to continue raising awareness and funds for MND, a rare condition that severely impacts muscle control and movement.
Musical Evening Promises Variety and Entertainment
The musical event will be held at the 2nd Saintfield Presbyterian Church hall, starting at 19:30. The evening will feature performances by the Comber Music Club and the renowned husband-and-wife duo, Jonathan and Iryna Johnston, who will showcase their talents on flute and piano. Attendees can expect a diverse range of musical genres, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Brian Johnston will act as the event’s host, adding his signature touch of humor to the proceedings. In addition to the musical performances, guests will have the opportunity to purchase Johnston’s books and CDs from Jonathan and Iryna, with all proceeds directed toward MND research and support.
Understanding Motor Neurone Disease
Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive and life-limiting condition that affects the nerves responsible for muscle control. The disease has gained significant attention in recent years, particularly following the deaths of prominent figures in sports and entertainment who battled MND. The Northern Ireland Branch of the MND Association operates entirely with the help of volunteers, many of whom have personal connections to the disease, underscoring their commitment to raising awareness and supporting those affected.
Tickets for the musical evening are available for £15 and can be purchased directly from Brian Johnston at 07773 765781 or via email at [email protected]. This event not only promises an enjoyable evening filled with music and laughter but also serves as a vital opportunity to support a worthy cause.
