Disney Unveils Release Dates for “TRON: Ares” and More Updates

Disney has announced the digital and disc release dates for the much-anticipated film, “TRON: Ares.” The movie will be available for digital purchase on December 2, 2023, followed by a disc release on January 6, 2024. This comes two months after its theatrical debut, which began in early October. Despite the excitement surrounding its release, the film has struggled at the box office, grossing approximately $142 million globally against a production budget estimated between $180 million and $220 million, marking it as a commercial disappointment.

In another spotlight, actor Michael Stuhlbarg, known for roles in “Call Me By Your Name” and “Men in Black 3,”, has shared insights into the upcoming film “Judy,” directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise. Stuhlbarg described the project as “the craziest thing I’ve ever been a part of in my life,” emphasizing its ambitious nature. He noted that the filming process was extensive, running from October to May, and the narrative focuses on a powerful global figure striving to be perceived as a savior, while facing dire repercussions from his own actions.

Future of the “Wicked” Franchise

Meanwhile, Universal Pictures is contemplating the next steps for the “Wicked” franchise, following the commercial success of its two previous films. Chief Marketing Officer Michael Moses stated that the studio feels an “almost a responsibility” to explore further opportunities within the Wicked universe. Although details remain under wraps, he confirmed that plans are in development.

A24 has also adjusted its launch plans for the film “Marty Supreme,” featuring Timothée Chalamet in a unique ping pong drama. The film will be screened in 70mm format in both New York City and Los Angeles on December 18, 2023, a week prior to its nationwide release on December 25. These special screenings are part of a broader strategy to enhance the cinematic experience, utilizing vintage technology in a production that reportedly cost $70 million.

Leak Prompts IMAX Screening for “No Other Choice”

In a separate development, Park Chan-wook’s film “No Other Choice” has faced significant exposure following an online leak a week ago, which resulted in widespread screenshots and reactions. With its limited release set for December 25, 2023, IMAX has announced a one-night-only screening on December 8 across 100 cinemas nationwide. The film adapts Donald E. Westlake’s 1997 satirical thriller “The Ax,” featuring Lee Byung-hun as a paper factory manager who, after losing his job of 25 years, becomes desperate to reclaim his dignity and secure his family’s future.

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, these updates reflect both the challenges and opportunities faced by filmmakers and studios in an increasingly competitive market.
