Montenegro Government Approves Student Subsidies for 116 Medical Students

The government of Montenegro has approved financial subsidies for students enrolled in the applied physiotherapy program at the Medical Faculty of the University of Montenegro. During a meeting held on March 14, 2024, the government confirmed a monthly support of €250 for eligible students, aimed at covering accommodation and meal expenses.

Several students had previously expressed concerns regarding delays in receiving these subsidies. They highlighted that, unlike other state university students, they lack guaranteed accommodation and meal provisions, which places a significant financial burden on them. As a result, some students have been forced to borrow money to meet their housing expenses.

In a statement released on March 15, 2024, the government clarified that the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the University of Montenegro, and the municipality of Herceg Novi have collaborated to secure funding for this initiative. The financial support will be available from September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with each student receiving a total of €250. Specifically, the Ministry and the University will contribute €100 each month, while the municipality will provide €50.

The applied physiotherapy program was established in 2004, and students have faced ongoing challenges regarding their accommodation and meal arrangements since its inception. This financial support initiative was first introduced in the previous academic year, marking a significant step by the government, the University, and the municipality to address these longstanding issues for students studying away from their home residence.

According to records from the Medical Faculty of the University of Montenegro, this year, 116 students qualify for this financial assistance, reflecting a growing recognition of their needs and the government’s commitment to supporting education in Montenegro.
