Education Ministry Files 12 Criminal Charges for Fraudulent Diplomas

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation (MPNI) has filed an additional twelve criminal charges with the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica. These charges stem from credible suspicions that individuals submitted false and misleading educational documents. This issue emerged during the verification process for the recognition of foreign educational qualifications, where the relevant authorities determined the documents were not legitimate public records.

According to a statement from the MPNI, the allegations indicate that the individuals involved may have committed the criminal act of document forgery, as outlined in Article 412 of the Criminal Code. The ministry expressed its expectation for the competent authorities to act in accordance with their responsibilities and powers to address this significant institutional problem.

The ongoing investigations are part of broader efforts to ensure the integrity of educational qualifications in Montenegro. By bringing these matters to light, the MPNI aims not only to uphold academic standards but also to protect the reputation of legitimate educational institutions.

As the situation develops, the MPNI will continue to monitor the progress of these cases and provide updates as necessary, emphasizing the importance of maintaining trust in the educational system. The ministry’s proactive approach underlines its commitment to tackling fraudulent activities that undermine the credibility of educational qualifications in the country.

In light of these events, it is crucial for institutions and individuals to remain vigilant against fraudulent practices. The MPNI encourages all stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate in ensuring that all qualifications presented are valid and reliable, thus promoting a fair and transparent academic environment.
