URGENT UPDATE: West Berkshire Council has just announced plans to chop down approximately 200 trees in the district over the next few months due to safety concerns. A recent tree survey revealed that numerous ash trees are suffering from dieback, creating a significant risk of falling onto highways.
The council will begin the felling process immediately, starting with 25 trees along the north side of Ermin Street, near Hill Drop Lane in Lambourn. Additionally, 120 trees will be removed along the A339 near Shaw Park, with another 37 trees set to come down along the A4 towards Sulhamstead Hill.
These drastic measures are being taken to eliminate the risk posed by declining tree health. Aside from the ash trees, the council has identified other species requiring removal, including poplars, willows, and elms. In an official statement, the council expressed,
“We anticipate that natural regeneration of local shrubs will fill the gaps.”
This decision is particularly pressing for the community as it addresses both environmental and public safety concerns. With the increasing incidence of tree-related incidents, residents are urged to stay informed about the ongoing developments.
As the felling operation progresses, residents can expect to see increased activity along these roads. Authorities encourage the public to remain cautious and to follow any safety advisories issued during the tree removal process.
Stay tuned for updates as West Berkshire Council continues to address this critical issue. Your safety is their priority, and they are committed to restoring the area while ensuring public safety remains uncompromised.
