The Ministry of Economic Development of Montenegro and the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at improving collaboration in the field of intellectual property. This agreement, finalized on March 14, 2024, seeks to enhance public awareness regarding the significance of intellectual property rights and the processes involved in alternative dispute resolution.
The memorandum will facilitate joint educational programs and the exchange of information related to intellectual property. It aims to inform the wider public about intellectual property rights and their importance for Montenegro’s development. Additionally, it focuses on promoting alternative dispute resolution methods to reduce court costs and alleviate the burden on the judicial system.
Nik Gjeloshaj, Minister of Economic Development, expressed that the signing of this memorandum represents a significant step towards strengthening the role of mediation in intellectual property matters. He highlighted the importance of providing professional support to legal practitioners and institutions, enabling them to better grasp the advantages of alternative dispute resolution.
In her remarks, Maja Golović Vojinović, Executive Director of the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, emphasized the critical role of alternative dispute resolution in creating a more efficient and equitable judicial system. She stated, “This memorandum will enable greater accessibility to justice, and our joint objective is to make the legal system more efficient and accessible.”
Through educational initiatives and the promotion of alternative dispute resolution options in intellectual property, the Ministry and the Center aim to encourage broader application of these methods across Montenegro. This collaboration signifies a proactive approach to resolving disputes outside of traditional court settings, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the legal framework in the country.
By fostering a culture of mediation, Montenegro is taking important steps to ensure that intellectual property rights are respected and upheld, while also making the legal process more user-friendly for all stakeholders involved.
