The death of influencer Barbara Jankavski, who aimed to transform herself into a “Human Barbie,” is now under investigation for potential homicide following concerns raised by her family. The 31-year-old was discovered deceased on November 2, 2023, at the residence of a prominent lawyer in Sao Paulo. Initially believed to have suffered a heart attack due to cocaine use, the circumstances surrounding her death have prompted a new court to examine the case closely.
Jankavski’s family is advocating for her exhumation to facilitate a second autopsy, expressing suspicions that her death was not accidental. They pointed out visible injuries on her body, including marks on her neck and legs, which led them to question whether she may have been assaulted prior to her passing. Early police reports suggested that these injuries resulted from a fall, but this explanation is now under scrutiny.
The homeowner, Renato de Vitto, a 51-year-old attorney, reported to police that he had engaged Jankavski for sex and that both had used drugs before she fell asleep next to him. He claims to have attempted to revive her for nine minutes prior to contacting emergency services. Two other individuals present during the incident have also been interviewed, including a female friend of de Vitto, who suggested Jankavski may have injured herself during a fall.
Family representatives have raised concerns regarding the investigation’s thoroughness. They allege that forensic teams failed to conduct DNA tests on the three individuals present at the scene and did not scrape under Jankavski’s fingernails for evidence. They are particularly interested in determining if she was subjected to violence, including the possibility of being “punched or strangled” before her death.
Jankavski, who was known to her 57,000 Instagram followers as Boneca Desumana, had undergone approximately 30 plastic surgeries to achieve her desired look. Her procedures included liposuction, rhinoplasty, and silicone injections. Throughout her journey, she documented her transformations and shared her experiences with fans. Notably, she had undergone five surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite suffering visible side effects.
Since her passing, tributes have poured in on social media platforms. Followers have expressed their shock and grief, with messages highlighting her impact on fans. One tribute read, “I can’t believe it. I loved you so much. Rest in peace,” while another stated, “I hope God receives you with open arms. You lived a little bit of the life you loved.”
