DWP Announces 3.8% Rise in PIP Payments from April 2026

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the **Personal Independence Payment** (PIP) will see a rise of **3.8%** starting from **April 2026**. This adjustment means that eligible claimants who qualify for both components at enhanced rates could receive a maximum weekly payment of **£194.60**.

The increase will affect both the daily living and mobility components of PIP. From April, the daily living component will rise to **£76.70** per week, while the mobility component will increase to either **£30.30** or **£80**, depending on the level of support needed. This adjustment is expected to significantly benefit those who rely on these payments for their daily expenses.

Claimants can apply for both components of PIP, with awards determined by individual circumstances. Both parts can be paid at standard or enhanced rates, which are assessed based on how an applicant’s condition impacts their ability to perform certain tasks. PIP is available to individuals aged **16 or over** who have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability that creates difficulties in daily activities or mobility.

To be eligible for PIP, applicants typically need to have resided in **England**, **Scotland**, or **Wales** for at least two of the past three years. Furthermore, applicants must be living in one of these countries at the time of application. Those who have recently returned from residing in the **EU**, **Switzerland**, **Norway**, **Iceland**, or **Liechtenstein** may be able to access PIP sooner than usual.

Details of the Payment Structure and Application Process

PIP is usually disbursed every four weeks, providing consistent financial support to those in need. The decision letter sent to claimants will detail the date of their first payment and the regular payment schedule. Additionally, it will outline the duration of support and any review processes that may be required.

According to DWP guidance, if a payment date coincides with a bank holiday, recipients will typically receive their payment in advance. Following the bank holiday, payments will continue as scheduled.

The rise in PIP payments reflects ongoing efforts to support individuals facing challenges due to disabilities or health conditions. As the cost of living continues to rise, this increase aims to provide necessary financial assistance to those who need it most. Eligible individuals are encouraged to review their circumstances and apply for PIP if they meet the criteria, ensuring they receive the support available to them.
