Newport’s Tree of Light Shines Brightly for Loved Ones This December

UPDATE: The beloved Tree of Light in Newport is set to illuminate the community once again as residents prepare to honor their loved ones this holiday season. The annual event, orchestrated by the Rotary Club of Newport and Newport Town Council, invites locals to sponsor a light on the tree, with proceeds benefiting vital charities.

This year’s ceremony will see the tree officially lit during the town’s Christmas lights event on November 22. Newport Mayor Thomas Janke has selected The Battle Back Centre Lilleshall as the chosen charity, an organization dedicated to supporting wounded service members. Since its founding in 2011, the center has been instrumental in providing recovery and wellbeing programs for veterans.

For those wishing to participate, a minimum contribution of £5 will sponsor a light. The names of honorees will be published in the Newport Advertiser, and a memorial book will be displayed at the town library early next year. Interested participants can find sponsorship forms in local venues, including Ace Computers on 101 High Street and the Newport Town Council desk in the library.

The Rotary Club spokesperson emphasized the community’s generous spirit, stating, “We are pleased to launch our ‘Tree of Light’ appeal for 2025 and hope the local community will support ongoing worthwhile causes while remembering a loved one as we approach Christmas.”

Forms and payments must be submitted by December 11, with drop boxes available at both High Street sites for convenience. This cherished tradition not only brings light during the festive season but also strengthens community bonds and supports essential services for those in need.

As the countdown to the lighting ceremony begins, residents are encouraged to act swiftly to ensure their loved ones are remembered in this heartfelt tribute.
