The iconic Tata Sierra has made a striking comeback, reimagined with contemporary features while retaining its classic design. Priced at Rs 11.49 lakh, this midsize SUV is poised to compete effectively in a crowded market. Tata Motors has successfully blended nostalgia with innovation, delivering a vehicle that appeals to both long-time fans and new buyers. The updated Sierra maintains its distinctive boxy shape while incorporating modern aesthetics, including full-length LED light bars and sleek, flush door handles. The SUV’s dimensions have increased, making it appear more robust, supported by optional 19-inch alloys that further enhance its rugged look.
Enhanced Interior and Spacious Design
Inside the new Sierra, the focus shifts to comfort and spaciousness. Depending on the selected variant, the cabin features either two or three screens, including a 10.25-inch driver display and a 12.3-inch main touchscreen. Higher trims even offer an additional 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. The interior boasts leatherette seating, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof, which is touted as the largest available in the country.
Practicality is a key highlight as well, with a boot capacity of 622 litres that expands to 1,257 litres when the rear seats are folded down. A long wheelbase of 2,730 mm ensures ample legroom and shoulder space for passengers, accommodating even taller individuals.
Powerful Engine Options and Advanced Features
The Tata Sierra is available with three engine configurations: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol generating around 106 hp and 145 Nm, a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol producing 160 hp and 255 Nm, and a diesel option that offers up to 118 hp and 280 Nm. Gearbox choices include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT for the naturally aspirated petrol, and torque converter automatics for both turbo petrol and diesel variants.
Built on Tata’s ARGOS platform, the Sierra is designed with future adaptability in mind, supporting potential hybrid, CNG setups, and even all-wheel drive configurations. Although current models are front-wheel drive, plans for an all-wheel-drive version are anticipated by 2027. The SUV features a ground clearance of 205 mm and can handle water wading up to 450 mm.
The adaptive suspension system available in higher trims enhances ride quality, allowing for adjustments based on driving conditions. Multiple drive modes, including City and Sport, along with terrain modes such as Auto, Wet, and Rough, provide flexibility for various driving scenarios.
For entertainment, the Sierra is equipped with a JBL 12-speaker system complete with a subwoofer and Dolby Atmos support. Additional tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with multiple USB-C ports for connectivity.
Safety is also a priority, with advanced features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. The top variants incorporate Level 2 Plus Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering over 20 safety features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance.
As Tata Motors prepares for the launch, bookings for the new Sierra will open on December 16, 2025, with deliveries expected to commence on January 15, 2026. The company has also introduced an array of attractive color options, although the absence of a black variant has led to speculation about a potential Dark Edition in the future.
