Urgent: Construction Begins on Bristol’s New Oasis Academy

UPDATE: Construction has officially commenced on the new Oasis Academy Temple Quarter in Bristol, transforming a former industrial site into a state-of-the-art educational facility. The groundbreaking ceremony took place last week, signaling a new era for education in the area.

The new school, located on Silverthorne Lane within the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, is set to accommodate 1,600 pupils initially, providing a purpose-built environment designed for learning and community engagement.

Richard James, head of school at Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The groundbreaking ceremony is a proud moment for Oasis and for East Central. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that will see our students and community benefit from a permanent, purpose-built space designed for learning, growth, and connection.”

The project includes plans for a modern main school building and the renovation of a historic boiler shop, which will be converted into a new sports hall for students. The academy will initially cater to children aged 11 to 16, with an expansion to include a sixth form by September 2027.

Peter Reavey, regional director at Graham, emphasized the significance of this project, noting, “Groundbreaking ceremonies are always special, but this one felt particularly meaningful given the scale of the project and the passion of the school community.”

The ceremony featured impactful speeches from notable figures including Rev Steve Chalke, the founder of Oasis, alongside students and community representatives. The focus is not just on education but also on creating an inspiring environment that nurtures confident and compassionate individuals.

This development is crucial for the East Central community, promising to enhance educational opportunities and foster growth among students in Bristol. As construction progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the opening of the Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, marking a transformative step forward in local education.
