UPDATE: A former actor from Peaky Blinders has turned a neglected Welsh woodland into an award-winning glamping site, achieving recognition just last week. Nic Breeze, along with his wife Caroline, has transformed a piece of land above Talacre Beach in Flintshire, clearing towering 15ft brambles to unveil a stunning retreat now known as Emlyn’s Coppice.
This remarkable transformation culminated in the site winning the prestigious Best Self-Catering Site of the Year at the Go North Wales Tourism Awards. The couple had initially dreamed of establishing a glamping business long before the pandemic halted their plans. “My wife, Caroline, and I were planning to open a glamping site long before, but Covid had put things on hold,” Breeze stated.
After clearing the overgrown landscape, they discovered a “lovely spot” nestled in ancient woodland. The site features bespoke glamping pods, private hot tubs, and a handcrafted sauna, all designed with sustainability in mind. Since its opening, Emlyn’s Coppice has seen an impressive occupancy rate of over 70 percent in its first year, attracting visitors throughout the year, particularly from Liverpool, Manchester, and the West Midlands.
“We’ve made the site as private as possible, providing a genuine feel of being in the woods rather than a typical caravan park,” Breeze emphasized. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the Clwydian Range, which has recently been designated as a National Landscape, as well as access to the Wales Coastal Path, the Pilgrims Trail, and the Offa’s Dyke Path.
Breeze expressed his delight at the award, stating, “We are obviously delighted to win our first major award.” Although they were unable to attend the awards ceremony for personal reasons, the recognition marks a significant milestone for their venture.
As the glamping site continues to grow in popularity, it represents not just a business success but also a community asset, providing visitors with a unique escape into nature. With its emphasis on quality guest experiences, Emlyn’s Coppice is set to be a standout destination in North Wales.
For those looking for a serene getaway, the award-winning site is an opportunity to experience a slice of paradise just steps away from the beautiful Welsh coast.
