Police Arrest 11, Seize Thousands in Crackdown on Illicit Goods

URGENT UPDATE: Police across the West Midlands have arrested 11 individuals and seized thousands of pounds worth of cash and illicit goods in a major crackdown. This operation, part of Operation Machinize led by the National Crime Agency (NCA), targeted organized crime in Coventry, Birmingham, and the Black Country.

Earlier today, officers executed multiple warrants resulting in significant discoveries. Searches at two addresses in Digbeth revealed three imitation firearms, 20 bottles of illegally imported alcohol, and a quantity of suspected Class A drugs. Among the arrests, four suspects were detained for possession with intent to supply drugs, raising serious concerns about drug-related crime in the region.

In a sweeping effort, police visited over 150 businesses, including barbershops, nail bars, and car washes, suspected of being exploited by organized gangs for money laundering activities. The operation also included collaboration with the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), Home Office Immigration Enforcement, Trading Standards, HM Revenue and Customs, and Companies House.

On Sunday, November 22, 2023, authorities conducted checks on 24 light commercial vehicles, identifying several offences and seizing five vehicles. One man was arrested on suspicion of two thefts, further showcasing the extensive reach of this operation.
