The Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Nigeria has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Digital School, an initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative (MBRGI). This agreement aims to enhance access to digital education and practical skills development for Nigerian youths through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA). The formal signing of the MoU took place in Dubai, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s commitment to preparing its youth for participation in the global digital economy.
The partnership builds on discussions held in July 2025 between the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and senior officials from the UAE government and development partners. During the ceremony, Olawande characterized the collaboration as “a promise to equip Nigerian youth with the skills, tools, and opportunities they need to thrive in a fast-changing digital world.” He expressed gratitude to the government and people of the United Arab Emirates for their hospitality and ongoing support in the realm of global development.
The UAE Digital School, overseen by Dr. Waleed Al Ali, serves as a flagship initiative of MBRGI, dedicated to providing digital learning opportunities to underserved communities around the globe. This partnership will enable Nigeria to utilize the school’s digital infrastructure, resources, and expertise, thereby bolstering digital inclusion and education for young people throughout the nation.
In his remarks, Olawande also acknowledged the contributions of the ministry’s technical partner, Sapphital Limited, praising their commitment to the success of NiYA and related digital empowerment projects. He commended his ministry’s team for their dedication in bringing this initiative to fruition.
This collaboration is anticipated to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda by offering access to modern, skill-based education. This initiative will empower youth for future employment opportunities, aligning with the broader goals of both nations to foster shared progress and responsibility.
The MoU stands as a testament to the potential for international cooperation in enhancing educational opportunities and preparing young people to succeed in an increasingly digital world. As Nigeria embraces this partnership, it takes a significant step towards equipping its youth with the necessary skills for the future of work.
